Summer Impact 08

Music Impact is hosting an event in aid of Summer Impact 2008, a project to help the Llandewey Community in St. Thomas, Jamaica.

The event will be held on Thursday 8th May, at Bar 42, City North Campus, Birmingham City University, Perry Barr. Doors will open at 7.30pm and the event will continue until late (about 2am). Entry is £3 and there will be a range of bands, artists and DJs in varying genres.

The event is for students (18 plus) but students at Birmingham City University can sign in one non-student guest with their student card. Also we are having an optional Jamaican coloured dress code (black, green and gold) just to add a bit more fun to the event.

The event is to fundraise for the Summer Impact 2008 project, and some of the artists will be selling CDs of their work.
The project is organised by Kay Sudeene, a student, and the Voices In Broken Experiences Group.

St. Thomas is a rural community in Jamaica where living standards are classed as third world. The community has high rates of unemployment and teenage pregnancies. The local church has appealed for the help of 10 volunteers from the UK to help ease the worry of economic and social depression.

“Summer Impact volunteers seek to undertake a huge youth community service initiative that it hopes will reach the hearts of the young people in that section of the community, show them that people do care, that there is hope for a brighter future and leave a lasting impression on their minds.”
