On this date in 1968 the Airplane performed one of their 10
finest shows ever! Pulling a rabbit out of hat is one thing but
the Airplane pulled one form the first LP, when Signe Anderson
was on board. They didn't perform "Blues From An Airplane" in
1965, 66, or 67 but on this night....

Information from 11/2/69 (November 2, 1969) Elysian Park, Los
Angeles, California is really part of the documentation of this
show. The band did play on 11/2/69 but there are no confirmed
set lists.

1 Tune-up > Grace tells the crowd "The next song can be one of
two." > Somebody To Love 4:35

2 Young Girl Sunday Blues > Tune-up 4:58

3 She Has Funny Cars > Tune-up > Paul intros the next song 4:53

4 Two Heads (L) > Tune-up 4:53 This was the final appearance. At
least for a few more months the song deserved a better live fate.

5 Martha > Tune-up 4:44

6 Kansas City Blues (Move To Kansas City) (L) Jorma vocals >
Tune-up > Paul intros the next song 7:28 This was the last
appearance of the song. Song six has often been left off the
documentation from this show.

7 The Other Side Of This Life 7:56

8 Today 3:14 A stellar version!

9 Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon > Paul thank the crowds crowd
> Tune-up 6:43

10 It's No Secret > Tune-up > Grace thanks the crowd 4:08

11 Blues From An Airplane (F & L) > Tune-up 2:52 This is the
only time performed! Better late than never! Song eleven is
another that would have been nice to have been performed on a
continuous basis. It has never gotten the credit it deserves for
the well composed lyrics. As good as it sounded in 1968 it would
have been even better if played when first born.

12 Watch Her Ride 4:10

13 Plastic Fantastic Lover > Tune-up 3:53

14 Tune-up > White Rabbit 2:34

15 (3/5 Of A Mile In 10 Seconds) > Grace thanks the crowd >
Tune-up 6:38

16 Share A Little Joke (F & L) > (This is the only appearance of
Share A Little Joke). Paul announces "The next song (Ice Cream
Phoenix Jam) is an instrumental and if you have words sing
along." > Tune-up 5:00 >

17 Ice Cream Phoenix Jam (Instrumental) (F & L) 9:52 Cut. This
is the only appearance. It was a surprise that such an intense
piece of work would come and go in one night.

18 Tune-up > Fat Angel > Tune-up 8:52

19 The Ballad Of You And Me And Pooneil > Grace thanks the
crowd 10:33 The improvisational segment of the show (Songs
seventeen through nineteen) were one of the reasons to this day
2/1/68 is considered one of their ten best performances ever.

20 High Flying Bird (L) 4:37 This was the final appearance.
Another link to the past is broken. A superb tune that served
the band and the fans well.

21 Wild Tyme (F) > Marty thanks the crowd > Tune-up 3:49 This is
the first appearance.

22 Go To Her (L) > Paul thanks the Crowd > Tune-up 4:37 This was
the final appearance.

23 Rock Me Baby 7:38 Jorma vocals. Very nice slow blues version!

Thanks for flying J.A. Our flight is over but only for now. See
you all on the runway soon. Craig Fenton
