THE WORLD FAMOUS MARQUEE IS TO BE DEMOLISHED (AGAIN!!) WITH ONLY 7 DAYS NOTICE GIVEN TO THE OWNER & PROMOTERS LAST TUESDAY!!

The Marquee closed its doors for good yesterday having been served with a 7 day demolition notice to all from the freeholders. As a promoter, with gigs to re-locate at the 11th hour, this has put me in a spot - especially as I have magazine features and ads saying "CYRIL DAVIES BIRTH OF BLUES DAY TRIBUTE at THE MARQUEE, Upper St Martins Lane, March 1st".

Stringfellows next door remains, but the rest of the street will become a Hotel and a shopping mall. Once again corporate culture, and Westmisnster Council collude to kill off independently organised 'live music' in London's West End! With rumours about the demolition of the Astoria, LA2, Tin Pan Alley/Denmark Street, and the world famous 100 Club now rife, one wonders what will be left LIVE MUSIC-WISE in the heart of the capital?

CYRIL DAVIES & THE BIRTH OF BRIT BLUES TRIBUTE DAY, Saturday, March 1st 2008.This gig has now re-located to the DOME upstairs at THE BOSTON opposite Tufnell Park Underground Station. It has 350 capacity and the times CHANGE to 7.30pm openinguntil 12.00. with screenings still included as part of this SPECIAL LIVE event.

THIS IS IMPORTANT (Read this slowly)

The Marquee, which re-opened in Upper St Matins Lane, WC2 last august, had a reputation as a bar promoting 'unsigned school leaver bands' in general. As a TV Music Documentary Producer with over 60 Music documentaries under my belt (and 20 years experience of archive-based Music Documentary making) I was brought-in by the Marquee to help celebrate THE HERITAGE of the Marquee, LIVE via a series of special events.

The above gig is a CRUCIAL event celebrating an unsung BRITISH/LONDON hero, Cyril Davies. HE WAS THE FIRST GUY TO PLAY 'REAL' AMERICAN BLUES IN THE UK! FACT!

Many musos "go on" about John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - but forget one crucial fact, Cyril Davies had four future members of the ROLLING STONES (Charlie Watts, Nicky Hopkins, Mick Jagger and Brian Jones), two members of the YARDBIRDS (Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck) and one member of the CREAM (Jack Bruce) all pass through his ranks before his early death in 1964. He was simply ahead of the game! WE WILL STILL CELEBRATE THIS MAN, THE MUSIC HE CHAMPIONED, AND THE DEBT BRITISH MUSIC OWES TO THIS RATHER CHUBBY HARMONICA-PLAYING GODFATHER OF BRITISH R & B  (when 'R & B' REALLY meant Rhythm & Blues!)

Come along to the DOME at THE BOSTON on Saturday March 1st and see former members of Blues Incorporated, The Yardbirds, Cream, Long John Baldry, Savoy Brown, Desmond Dekker, all gather together for one night only to lift the roof of the DOME and blow Blues LOUDLY!

PS I have pictures of the last show last Thursday which I promoted
- FLAMING GROOVY CHRIS WILSON at the Marquee on February 7th
