CONCERT FOR THE CATS

Quay Arts Centre Sat Oct 13th

Doors                Show

Isle of Wight music promoters Real Live return after a 3 year absence this October with Island musicians Staff Brett and Tali Trow both of whom have recently recorded live sessions for BBC Radio, in an ‘Electro Acoustic Extravaganza’ at The Quay Arts Centre (Minguella Theatre) where all proceeds will be raising funds for new enclosures for the Big Cat Sanctuary at the IW Zoo.      ‘ The zoo really is a sanctuary for the big cats all of which would have been left in worse conditions were they not homed there – none are captured in the wild, all are cared for thoroughly and this gig will help in a small way to make their surroundings even better.  The first new enclosures are a real improvement on the old so my self and the musicians taking part are all very happy to do this,’ said organizer Jon Mortimer.

Widely travelled Isle of Wight musician Staff Brett recently released his third solo album ‘Sunseeker’ to notable critical acclaim. This led to invitations from the BBC to perform two live radio sessions which proved great successes. With influences including The Faces, Stones and Stereophonics, Staff’s soulful blues tinged tunes and distinctive vocal - ‘The right side of Rod Stewart’ (Briggy Smale) - has enjoyed major audiences at both the GuilFest (2004 and 2007) and Millennium festivals although it is perhaps better suited to more intimate surroundings.

A great unique voice delivered with feeling. Check him out!
Sally Taylor - BBC South Today

Staff will be joined by Carl Perkins on lead guitar following a special support slot from Mr Tali Trow (with his pianist, Brad Thomas).  Tali Trow has been playing in bands and performing as a session musician for a number of years, appearing on bills with the likes of Tom Mcrae, Kasabian and Cherry Ghost.  Early in 2007 he recorded his debut solo album, The Teaspoon Incident, with the help of some wonderful artists.  Spurred on by the writing process and the success of the session, he and the musicians he had recorded with took the album on the road touring the south coast and London to great response. A tour of Germany is currently being arranged followed by a return to London where the follow up to The Teaspoon Incident will be recorded. Tali’s sound has been compared to the likes of Damien Rice, Rufus Wainwright and Ani di Franco.

On 7th October both Staf and Tali will be interviewed and performing live on Glyn Taylor’s Sunday evening show on Isle of Wight Radio from giving a sneak preview of what to expect.  Tali will also be performing a live session on Sally Taylor’s BBC Radio Solent Saturday Morning show from on the 29th September.

A minimum of £4 from each £6 ticket sold will be donated to The IoW Tiger Sanctuary.  There will be the facility for any further entirely voluntary cash donations at the end of the performance.  Tickets are available now from the box office on 01983 822 490.  It is advised to book early as the Minguella Theatre has a capacity of 140 (All seated.)
