**Calling all Buskers**

Cambridge City Centre Management Presents:

 “Buskers & Street Performers Festival”

29th – 31st July 2008

City Centre Management conducted a survey to gauge public opinion from residents, buskers and businesses in the city centre to find their views on whether they think a higher degree of control should be exercised over busking/street entertainment within the city centre.

The results of the questionnaire indicated that most people do not want a badging system introduced and feel that Cambridge is quite unique and has a very special atmosphere.  However, the results of the survey did highlight the need to raise awareness amongst the busking community of the ‘Street Performers Code of Practice’ and the areas of the city centre that are not suitable for certain types of performance.

 Celebrate & Educate:

We have listened to what you have to say and to celebrate the fact that Cambridge is so unique we are considering holding a Buskers & Street Performers Festival from the 29th – 31st July 2008 in the streets of the City.  Our reasons for hosting this festival are twofold, to celebrate Street Performance & to educate the busking community and increase awareness amongst performers of their need to follow the ‘Street Performers Code of Practice’.

There will be a varied programme of entertainment throughout the City Centre, with buskers from all over the region taking part.  We are looking for, bands ie. folk, jazz etc, acoustic musicians, choirs, dance groups, mine artists, street theatre, jugglers, human statues, comedy acts, magicians, acrobats and more!

If you would like to make a donation for participating in this event (no entry fee will be charged) all donations received will go to the Mayor’s charities.  If you would like to be involved in this festival please submit your application form no later than Saturday 31st May.

For an application form or for more information please contact Heather Bevan-Hunt on 01223 457315 or email, heather.bevanhunt@cambridge.gov.uk
