The Harder They Come
6 Mar – 5 Apr 2008
Barbican Theatre
Following two sell-out runs at Theatre Royal Stratford East, the musical magic of The Harder They Come hits the Barbican. This exhilarating show is based on the groundbreaking film of the same name, which starred Jimmy Cliff and launched reggae onto a world stage.
Young singer Ivan Martin heads to Kingston with dreams of becoming a reggae star, but the harsh reality of the Jamaican music scene drives him into a fast and furious life as an outlaw. With a live reggae band, the cast perform all the classic songs from the film soundtrack, including You Can Get It If You Really Want and By The Rivers of Babylon. A feel-good smash hit that marks a defining moment in Jamaican culture.
Don’t miss Linton Kwesi Johnson and Film Jamaica as part of The Harder They Come season at the Barbican.
